One UI 9 Is Rolling Out: Which Refurbished Galaxy Phones Get Android 17?

One UI 9 Is Rolling Out
Android 17 has landed on Samsung's newest foldables. Here's which refurbished Galaxy phones are next — and which ones aren't.

Samsung released the stable build of One UI 9 — its Android 17 software — on July 22, 2026, pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 announced at Galaxy Unpacked in London. In the first week of August the rollout started reaching phones people already own, beginning with the Galaxy S26 series.

If you're shopping for a refurbished Galaxy right now, this is the single most useful thing to know: update eligibility is what decides how long a phone stays worth owning. Here's the state of play.

Heads up — dated information. As of August 10, 2026, Samsung has not published an official One UI 9 eligible-device list or a full rollout calendar. The device lists and timing below are drawn from Samsung's stated update policy and from reporting by SamMobile, Sammy Fans and Beebom, and they may shift. We'll update this post when Samsung confirms the roadmap.

What is One UI 9?

One UI 9 is Samsung's version of Android 17. Samsung began beta testing it on the Galaxy S26 series on May 13, 2026, and shipped the finished version alongside its 2026 foldables in July. Reported focus areas include an updated Quick Panel, expanded Galaxy AI tools, improvements to Samsung Notes and DeX, and the privacy and security changes that come with Android 17 itself.

Separately, Samsung detailed its August 2026 security patch in early August: 56 fixes in total, made up of 38 Android patches from Google and 18 Samsung-specific ones. Security patches reach a much wider set of phones than major version updates do — which matters if the model you want isn't on the One UI 9 list.

Which Galaxy phones are expected to get Android 17?

Devices Expected One UI 9 timing
Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Flip 8 Shipped with One UI 9 (July 2026)
Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra First in line — August 2026
Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25 FE August–September 2026
Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 7 / Z Flip 7 Around September 2026
Galaxy Z Fold 6 / Z Flip 6 September–October 2026
Galaxy S23 series, Z Fold 5 / Z Flip 5, A-series, Tab S9 and newer Late 2026

Which Galaxy phones miss out on One UI 9?

This is the part worth being straight about. The Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy Z Fold 4 are not expected to receive One UI 9. They fall under Samsung's older four-year update policy — the seven-year commitment started with the Galaxy S24 — so they top out at One UI 8.5 on Android 16 and move to security-only updates from there.

That doesn't make them bad phones. A Galaxy S22 in 2026 is still a fast, capable device with years of security patches ahead of it, and it costs a fraction of a current flagship. It just means you should buy one knowing it's near the end of its major-version road, not expecting Android 17 to show up.

Frequently asked questions

When will my Galaxy get One UI 9?

Samsung hasn't published a full calendar. Based on its stated update policy and current reporting, the Galaxy S26 series is first in August 2026, the S25 family follows through August and September, the S24 series and Z Fold 7 / Z Flip 7 around September, and the S23 series, older foldables, A-series phones and Tab S tablets late in the year. Korea and Europe usually see updates before the US.

Does the Galaxy S22 get Android 17?

It isn't expected to. The Galaxy S22 series sits under Samsung's four-year major-update policy, so One UI 8.5 on Android 16 is its last major version. It will continue receiving security updates, including the August 2026 patch.

Do refurbished Galaxy phones get Samsung updates?

Yes. Software updates come from Samsung and are tied to the device model, not to where you bought it. A certified refurbished Galaxy S25 gets exactly the same One UI 9 update on the same schedule as one bought new — which is a large part of why buying refurbished makes sense.

Should I wait for One UI 9 before buying?

No real reason to. The update is free and arrives over the air. What matters is buying a model that's on the list — a Galaxy S25 or S26 bought today will get One UI 9 automatically, and several more major versions after that.
