iPhone Screen, Battery and Charging Port Repair: OEM vs Genuine vs Aftermarket Parts

iPhone Screen, Battery and Charging Port Repair: OEM vs Genuine vs Aftermarket Parts

iPhone Repair, Explained
Screens, batteries, ports and more, plus how to pick the right parts for your fix.

A cracked screen or a battery that dies by lunch doesn't mean you need a new iPhone. Strictli repairs nearly every iPhone, up to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, by mail from anywhere in the US. Here is what we fix, how the process works, and the one decision that matters most: which parts go into your phone.

Common iPhone repairs we handle

  • Broken screen: cracked glass, black spots, lines, flickering, or touch that stopped responding.
  • Short battery life: a worn battery that drains fast or shuts the phone off early. See iPhone battery health explained to check yours.
  • Won't charge: charging port problems from wear, damage or packed-in pocket lint.
  • Cameras: front or rear camera problems.
  • Back damage: shattered back glass.
  • Buttons and speakers: stuck or dead buttons, and quiet or crackling speakers.
  • Software problems and anything else. Describe it on the form and we will diagnose it.
  • Board-level repair: logic board work for problems deeper than a single part.

Liquid damage: an iPhone that has been in water is quoted as data recovery rather than a standard repair, and recovery is not guaranteed. Power it off, do not charge it, and start a request as soon as you can.

Which iPhones we repair

Our repair form lists nearly every iPhone Apple has made, from older models like the iPhone 6, 7 and 8 through the iPhone X, XR, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 lines, the iPhone SE, and the new iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. If your model is on the list, we can diagnose it.

OEM vs genuine pulled vs aftermarket: which parts should you choose?

When you approve your repair, you choose the part tier. It changes the price, the wait and the warranty.

OEM (Genuine) Genuine Pulled Aftermarket
What it is A new part made by or for Apple An original Apple part removed from another device A part made by a third-party manufacturer
Cost Typically the highest Typically in between Typically the lowest
Wait time May add time Depends on availability Our default, usually the quickest
Repair warranty 1 year 1 year 60 days
Best for Keeping your iPhone as close to factory as possible Original Apple quality without new-part pricing The lowest cost and the fastest turnaround

Unless you ask otherwise, we use high-quality aftermarket parts. OEM parts are available by request.

What "Unknown Part" means on an iPhone

Apple pairs certain parts to each iPhone. Aftermarket parts cannot be paired, so after a repair your iPhone may show an "Unknown Part" or non-genuine part notice in Settings, and features tied to the original part can be limited. That can include True Tone and display color calibration, Face ID or Touch ID, and battery health reporting.

The phone still works, and the notice is not a defect. If you want to avoid it, request OEM parts when you approve your repair.

How to choose, in 30 seconds

  • Keeping the phone for years, or planning to sell it later? Choose OEM or genuine pulled for the 1-year warranty and the most original experience.
  • Fixing an older phone or a backup on a budget? Aftermarket keeps the cost down, with a 60-day warranty.
  • Need it back fast? Aftermarket is our default and usually the quickest. OEM parts may add time.

How iPhone repair by mail works

  1. Start online. Pick your iPhone model on our repair page and tap the problem. The diagnostic fee shows up front, for example $69 for an iPhone 13 Pro, and it is included in your final repair price, not charged on top.
  2. Ship it with your prepaid label. Back up first, remove the case, and leave your SIM card in.
  3. Get your price within 48 hours. Our Strictli Certified technicians diagnose your iPhone within 48 hours of arrival. Nothing is repaired until you approve the price and choose your parts.
  4. Pay when it's done. You're charged once the repair is finished, and we ship it back. Track progress any time with Track My Repair.
Before you ship it: back up your iPhone (Strictli is not responsible for lost data), write down your passcode so we can test the phone, take off the case, and leave the SIM card in. You do not need to turn off Find My. Full details are in our Repair Terms and Conditions.

Repair or replace?

Repair is usually the smart move when your iPhone is newer or only one part has failed. If your phone is older, has several problems, or the battery is worn too, compare the repair quote with a certified replacement. If you decline a quote, you can have your old phone recycled at no charge. Not sure? Our guide to repairing, replacing or trading in a cracked iPhone walks through it.

Frequently asked questions

How much does iPhone screen repair cost?

It depends on your model and the part tier you choose. The repair form shows the diagnostic fee up front, for example $69 for an iPhone 13 Pro, and that fee is included in the final price if you go ahead. You get the exact price after diagnosis and approve it before any work.

Should I choose OEM or aftermarket parts?

Choose OEM or genuine pulled if you want the most original experience and a 1-year repair warranty. Choose aftermarket if you want the lowest cost and quickest turnaround, with a 60-day warranty.

Why does my iPhone say "Unknown Part" after a repair?

Apple pairs some parts to each iPhone, and aftermarket parts cannot be paired. The notice is not a defect, but some features like True Tone may be limited. Request OEM parts to avoid it.

Do I need to turn off Find My before sending my iPhone?

No. Just include your passcode so our technicians can unlock and test the phone before and after the repair.

Will I lose my data?

Possibly. Repairs can erase data, and Strictli is not responsible for data loss, so back up to iCloud or a computer before you ship.

Can you fix a water-damaged iPhone?

Phones with liquid damage are quoted as data recovery rather than a standard repair, and recovery is not guaranteed.
